Shakira Named Harvard Foundation's Artist of the Year

She’s one of the hardest working musicians out there, and the Harvard Foundation is planning on recognizing Shakira for her efforts.

According to reports, the Harvard Foundation has named the “She Wolf” singer as the 2011 Artist of the Year.

Shakira will receive “the Foundation’s most prestigious medal” in recognition of her music and charity work at the annual Cultural Rhythms festival - which is held at Sander Theater at Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts.


The foundation’s director S. Allen Counter said that the Colombian beauty was chosen to receive the accolade this year because of her musical contributions to culture and her work helping children in impoverished areas such as Haiti.

The ceremony is set to take place on February 26.

Duh duh duh, another ones bites the dust…

Looks like 2011 is going to continue last year’s trend of celebrity breakups. This time it’s Shakira and her boyfriend of 11 years, Antonio de la Rua, calling it quits.

The hip shaking singer released an official statement saying,

“During our almost 11 years together we have loved each other deeply, taken care of each other and stood by one another.

“They have been the most wonderful years of our lives, and thanks to that love and the respect that we share for one another we have been an exceptional couple and partners.

“We move forward as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication. Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible.”

Weren’t they engaged? Or were those just rumors? Hopefully this is the right decision for both of them, and it sounds like Shakira and Antonio really are committed to staying friends. There were no kids involved, since they weren’t actually married, there’s no pre-nup or spousal support to contend with either and as far as I know, no rumors of cheating so the split should stay pretty uncomplicated.

Hopefully Shakira will stay busy with her music and charity work and try not to dwell too much on the past. Easier said than done.
