Oh,this is what we call amazing, the magic of hair and makeup. When the models arrived backstage at Gucci—all straggly hair and naked faces—they looked, well, their age. Makeup artist Pat McGrath and hairstylist Luigi Murenu set about transforming them into glamorous, even intimidating, runway prowlers. “The look was inspired by [sixties supermodel] Veruschka on safari and an exotic tour of Acapulco, the Americas, and Miami,” says McGrath. “I decided a smoky, aquatic eye and nude, glossy lips would reflect the tone and energy of the collection.” For the hair, Murenu’s goal was “gorgeous brushed-out, groomed hair that would feel both seductive and strong.” Nearly three hours per model later, those little girls were gone.
